Creating textiles with paper

Here we used paper and card to experiment with making textiles for using to make objects such as bags and coasters etc. I started with manipulating the paper in different ways such as weaving, crumpling and folding. I then tried making origami and found this more effective than just throwing the paper away. I then found some crisp packets and laminated them, then i cut them up and weaved them to make an interesting sheet of material.

Subject: Visit to Children's Scrapstore by City of Bath College Students

Ella

Would you please thank all of the students for their enthusiasm and ideas when they visited the Children's Scrapstore last week. I hope that they came away with enough to shape some projects, or at least to be further informed about re-use and recycling, and also the Scrapstore.

I have included a list of their ideas for you, and I will be in touch again when I have discussed the project with Jeff.

Until then , thanks again.

scrapstore

I have decided to work with the Scrapstore and create an advert for them, my idea's are to either make a chain reaction advert or an advert working with children. I think that I want to include some animation into my advert so i need to do some research into animation.

Client proposal form

Creative and Media Diploma
Client Proposal Form

Summary of client needs for project

The client needs us to publicise their company by creating an advert in which we promote the donation of scrap

What does the client require your product to do? Who is the target audience for the product?

The clients requires a product which shows how scrap is re-used at the Scrapstore and promotes the donation of scrap. The target audience is large companies which produce waste scrap which the Scrapstore could re-use.

Idea for product

Advert
Pile of scrap being manipulated by the public showing what different people make of it and promoting re-use.
Stop motion animation of one piece of scrap turning into a work of art.
Journey of scrap, one possibility to a landfill site and one to a 'playpod'.

Sculpture
Small sculptures made of scrap to sell for charity.

Flash-make
Organised event on social networking sites to get public involved with using scrap to make things.

Theater donations
Partner with theaters charity shops to get dress up clothes for the children.

Leaflet and poster
Appealing poster to get companies to donate scrap
Outline the final idea for your project

My final idea is to create a film for the Scrapstore of children using scrap to play.

How will you ensure that your product is suitable for it’s purpose?

I will follow the brief closely and try and get feedback along the way.

Resources required

I will need two children, a room, possibly a garden, filming equipment, and scrap.

What will you need to create your product? Include resources, locations, models etc.

I will need a location suitable for filming in. camera equipment, mac and software.

Potential difficulties with execution of product

If the children don’t want to cooperate. If I have difficulties filming.

What could go wrong when you are producing your work? What steps will you take to try and avoid these?

The children might not want to cooperate. The filming could go wrong or there could be difficulty with editing.

Health and Safety issues to consider

Looking after the children and ensuring they are safe. Letting the neighbors know I am shooting a film so they are not alarmed. Looking after myself and the camera equipment.
